The goals of this virtual access cover a number of services, such as:

• performance of remote administrative duties (virtual clerical services, academic consultations, course enrolments, information bulletin boards, suggestion box, etc.)

• Extracurricular or leisure activities (virtual shop, sports facilities bookings, room reservations, cinema ticket sales, job hunt, etc.)

• Academic duties, where possible, such as access to program contents, references, discussion forum, self-evaluation, exam dates and location announcements, exam convocations, FAQs and a wide array of academic solutions.

All these services, included in the Virtual Campus, and all future services that could be integrated have as their final objective the identification and authentication provided by the Smart Card.  The Smart Card, works as an element that can be easily integrated into the system, thus increasing software security solutions thanks to the complete user’s identification. Moreover, it is a technologically advanced solution in terms of the need for security and privacy in communications made through the Internet. Consequently, the possibilities of the Smart Card go much further than simple and secure identification, but also encompass the storage of passwords for secure communications, digital signatures, as well as making extremely secure financial transactions through the electronic debit card.

In addition, they offer amongst many other services, the secure saving of personal information which must remain private, the separation of critical calculations with respect to the security involved in password exchanges of other parts of the system (that need to be known) as well as it facilitates credentials handling and other private information network at work, at home or anywhere else.
