MUSCard SmartCard Services Inc. is a Canadian company that is dedicated to providing smart card technologies to the North American Market. It's principals have been developing and deploying smart card technology in Europe since 1998.

A smart card is a card that is embedded with a microprocessor and a memory chip. The microprocessor card can add, delete, and otherwise manipulate information on the card. Unlike magnetic stripe cards, they can carry all necessary functions and information on the card itself. They do not require access to remote databases at the time of the transaction, and offer greatly increased security.

The University of Murcia in Spain has been developing and deploying the most advanced smart card technologies for several years. That technology is in constant daily use at the University by 45,000 students and 1,000 staff members to provide financial transactions, security and access control, and as a gateway into a host of administrative services. The Murcia applications have been adopted by many other universities and libraries.
